We expect all our students, both internal and external applicants, to achieve at least six GCSEs at grade 7 or above (or grade A or above) and to meet the subject specific requirements for A Level study, which can be found in our Guide to A Level Subjects.
Entrance Exam
All external applicants applying at 16+ will sit three entrance papers.
- A general examination paper which tests skills such as critical thinking and problem solving and written communication
- Two subject examination papers which will be selected by us based on A Level subject choices.
Please indicate A Level subject choices on our application form. We will select two subjects for you to be examined in. Specific revision will not be required, and questions will be appropriate to all examination boards.
Interviews
After the Examination Day, we will invite some students for a general interview with a senior member of staff and up to two subject interviews. Please note that for DT, Art and Photography, portfolios will be required at interview. Please note there are separate dates for Music Scholarship and Sports Scholarship assessment.

All 16+ applicants are assessed for an academic scholarship, and can also apply for a maximum of two of the following scholarships: Art, Music, Drama or Sport scholarship.
