Earlier this week, Croydon saw the surprise opening of a shop created by the artist, Banksy, in a previously empty retail space near Surrey Street.

With a display including a security camera cot mobile, a brick handbag , a cash register, and other items that make a commentary on the current political, economical and social status of the UK, this installation has attracted huge attention from the general public and the media.

Upper Sixth Form artists paid a visit to the installation. Student Luke Yeulett said: “I felt that this installation is a departure from Banksy’s previous two dimensional work, resembling more a three dimensional Neo-Dadaist approach”.

The shop will be in place for 2 weeks and is well worth a visit. One member of our group was lucky enough to be handed a free Banksy print!
