This week, Fourth Year student, Alex Middleton, will be representing England in the 2021 School Games National Finals at Loughborough University. This multisport event for young athletes across the UK involves ten sports and Alex has been selected to do the Laser Run.

Laser Run consists of running and shooting. It is also the exhilarating finale to the Olympic sport of Modern Pentathlon, with athletes required to alternate between shooting a laser pistol and running in a race to the finish line and has now been adapted to form a stand-alone event. It requires stamina and speed for the run, along with focus and composure for the shoot.

The 2021 School Games National Finals, supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, is being held between Thursday 2nd and Sunday 5th September and more than 1,300 young athletes will compete across ten sports, including disability disciplines, at venues across Loughborough University Campus.

It will celebrate the resilience of our young athletes by sharing their stories of how they have stayed motivated and maintained their competitive edge to be ready to compete on this national stage. Well done, Alex!
