Our senior music competitions to find out Trinity Musician of the Year began this week with the Piano and Strings competition.

It was a pleasure to welcome back to the school the distinguished alumnus, concert pianist and Steinway Artist, Karl Lutchmayer, who adjudicated the piano competition.

Each competitor presented from memory an Étude by Chopin and a further work. As ever, the standard was exceptionally high and it was a unenviable task to select winners.

Congratulations to Daniel Zolinsky (1st), William Hardy (2nd), Ming-Ho Cheung (3rd) and Joshua Albuquerque (Highly Commended) and to Daniel Zolinsky, who also won the Étude prize.

For the Strings Competition we welcomed as our adjudicator the international violinist and co-leader of the London Symphony Orchestra, Carmine Lauri. Mr Lauri kindly expressed amazement at the quality of the performances and of our facilities and awarded prizes as follows: Dominic Holland (1st); Jeanette Szeto (2nd); Joseph Jenkins (3rd) and Jenson Wong (Highly Commended).

Kudos to our Guitar Department for presenting three excellent competitors and for having two guitarists placed in the top three!
