Fifth Year student Alex Molony recently jetted off to Los Angeles to start the publicity campaign for his lead role in Disney’s latest live-action film Peter Pan & Wendy. Alex attended D23 Expo 2022, Disney’s biggest fan event, where audiences were treated to the first look of the upcoming film including a new trailer and interviews with the stars of the show.

Alex tells us about his trip, “Arriving at D23, I was extremely nervous but felt much better when I saw my castmates Ever Anderson (Wendy), Alyssa Wapanatâhk (Tiger Lily) and Jude Law (Captain Hook). After photos and interviews, it was time for our film’s slot in the Disney Studio Showcase. We were introduced to the stage by Sean Bailey, the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, and it was nerve-wracking to be in front of 7,000 expectant Disney fans. I had to talk a bit about my character’s relationship with Captain Hook, but it wasn’t too bad as I had rehearsed it earlier that day. They unveiled the new poster and showed a trailer of the film, exclusively for the D23 attendees. Empire Magazine described the trailer as “epic, sweeping, and more dark and gritty than you might expect!” I’m really hoping that the trailer is released to the public soon.

“After the showcase, we headed to the press line where reporters from several media outlets, such as Variety and Hollywood Reporter, asked us questions. Most were about the film, but some were meant to be more fun like naming Marvel villains. After more interviews, we were finally finished! It was exhausting, but more fun than I’d imagined and, all in all, an amazing experience.

“The next day, Disney had arranged a trip to Disneyland Park for me as it was my birthday the following day. I was extremely excited to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and all the other rides and ended the day on Peter Pan’s Flight with my castmate Ever. After flying back overnight, where the cabin crew did a birthday shout out, I dashed home before making it into school for period 7 and 8!”

Peter Pan & Wendy will be streaming on Disney+ in 2023.

“It’s an absolute honour to play the part of Peter Pan, a character who has been in the hearts of so many for so many years.”
