A group of Sixth Form students were invited to the Develop Croydon conference – ‘Croydon 10’ – this week, hosted at the newly-refurbished Fairfield Halls.

The conference was a chance for our students to hear more about the forthcoming regeneration projects taking place in the town, and to supplement their studies of geography and economics in particular.

Hosted by Courtney Fingar, editor-in-chief of fDi Magazine, the audience heard from a variety of speakers, including Croydon Council CEO Jo Negrini; Gatwick Airport CEO Stuart Wingate; Jules Pipe from the Greater London Authority, and Rupal Patel from local business Day Lewis.

Topics covered throughout the morning included the growth plans for Gatwick Airport; the regeneration of Croydon’s ‘industrial zone’ the Purley Way, and the masterplan for Croydon’s ‘midtown’ development.

Eloise Demay said: “It was really interesting to hear each panel member’s current perception of Croydon and how they would like to see the town change in future”.
