Over the half term break, Fraser Myers, Theo Flanagan, Liam Writer and Tom Leigh attended a trial for England Hockey Under 18s.

England Hockey recently announced the squads for the next stage, which Fraser has advanced to, joining Joe Cotton, who had already been put forward due to his involvement last year

“Fraser, Theo, Tom and Liam all gave outstanding accounts of themselves whilst on trial for England U18s over half term. True to each of their personalities, the boys worked extremely hard at the trial days as they looked to push to the next stage,” said Mr Giles.

“The boys have all worked incredibly hard in building up to this point, regularly training on and off the pitch and always conducting themselves very professionally. All boys, who also represent Oxted Hockey Club, are fantastic role models for how aspiring international players should conduct themselves.

“All have performed exceptionally well for club and school to earn themselves the call up for the England U18s trial. Massive congratulations to Fraser who has now been selected to advance to the next stage of England U18s and will join up with Joe Cotton who has already be put forward to this stage following his successful spell with England U16s last year,” he explains.

Fraser added: “My goal is to become a world class hockey player and ultimately I would love to be part of the GB senior Men’s team. Getting through to the next round of the selection is another step closer to these goals, I now will work even harder to be part of the England squad. During the trials I was lucky enough to talk with Barry Middleton (the most capped GB player, I believe) and also get my dragflick tested under the speed gun, recording 100km/h (international dragflickers flick around 108km/h with the fastest being 120km/h at the minute). This is something I have wanted to do for a very long time so it was very exciting!”
