To top off a historical season in Trinity water polo, our U13 team has returned from the ESSA National Finals as champions this week – a huge congratulations to them! This means we currently hold all ESSA national titles – U13, U15 and U18 – after winning all three in the same academic year and making school history.
The U13 team travelled up to Northampton School for Boys on Tuesday and played two matches in Group B against Haberdashers’ Boys’ School and St Ambrose College. The first match was won comfortably 9-2, but the second against St Ambrose College was a bit more challenging, however the team still won 4-3.
They then faced London Oratory in the semi-final and beat them 6-3.
The final was against Manchester Grammar School and ended 2-0.
Mr King, Head of Aquatics, says, “The team fully deserved to be crowned champions. Charlie Goodbody, our goalkeeper, was the competition’s most valuable player. He made a double save in the final, at a critical stage in the game, that ultimately secured us gold. Charlie will train with our senior squad for the remainder of this term and has every chance of representing the school’s 1st team next season as a Third Year, as current student Kal-El is currently doing.
“Humphrey Bedford and Dylan Odeleye are also very deserving of a mention. Humphrey man-marked two of the best players in the competition and completely nullified the threat they posed. He also scored important goals including our second, winning goal from a distance in the final match. Dylan worked tirelessly for the team, winning every single swim off and scoring some wonderful goals throughout the matches.
“No time to rest though, we were straight back to training as we have three national titles to defend after all!”
Congratulations to every single player and the coaches – an incredible achievement!
